A concept for Studio Tast (2019 - 2020)

Music education tool in Dutch primary schools

Project overview
The aim of this project was to present a realistic product to boost music education in primary schools in the Netherlands. The reason for that was because the contemporary objective of the Dutch government is to have structured music education in all primary schools by 2020. There is a lot of work showing the importance of music education at primary schools and how a tangible design is beneficial when educating music. With that in mind, I created the final concept 'Maestro'.

This tool is about stimulating and training the music skills of children in primary schools through a physical device and digital platform. With physical tiles, children autonomously learn about the constructs of music. There are several prototypes built to understand all stakeholders, especially children, and teachers, involved in this domain. Moreover, a music composition learning line and educational method were developed with music experts to further reason the final designs. After many design iterations, a final prototype was realized and a future roadmap with business plans are created to increase the market potential. Besides, an innovation grant is honored to also be able to conduct a feasibility study with the purpose to solve technological, economical and legal issues.
My contribution
In this final master project of one full year, I fully managed this cross-disciplinary project. Much different expertise was required to realize the project and therefore many collaborations were started. I developed many hardware/software prototypes and designs to communicate with my stakeholders.
